California Dreaming

A few weeks ago, when the low here in North Carolina was 6° and the high was 21°, Paige, Brian, Greg and I were all fortunate enough to be visiting sunny California. Now in California, the low was 60° and the daily high 75° — not too shabby! Luckily, now we are in the 70s or else you would have stopped reading this immediately.

So why were we across the country? We were on a fact finding mission of sorts, seeing homes and gathering information about some of the latest building trends. It may seem strange, but with limited land and an abundance of people, parts of California have done a very nice, and unique, job of development. Their thoughtful use of land planning has helped them create neighborhoods where homes are relatively close, but plants and hardscape provide privacy and individuality. While we think Fearrington has accomplished that and more, it is always good to see what other folks are doing and how we might improve. We came back with some broad stroke ideas and we can’t wait to see how they play out in Fearrington’s future developments.

Hope R.B. will ask us to go again in February next year!

Alex & Andrew

Alex and Andrew tied the knot on December 6, 2014. These newlyweds said their "I dos" at the Garden Terrace, and danced the night away in the Fearrington Barn. How did you and your partner meet? We met nine years ago through mutual friends. Two of our best friends (Andrew’s best man) are brother and sister and we met at their house. After years of hanging out in the same close circle of friends, we began spending a lot more time together during the summer of 2010. When Alex left for... Full Post >

Ready Your Garden (and Yourself) for Spring!

Winter's not quite a distant memory yet, but each arriving songbird reminds us of the spring gardening work to be done. While it's hard to resist the temptation to get out and start digging and planting on the first warm weekend, there's still lots to do to in the weeks ahead when the ground is too soggy to work. First on our list here at Fearrington is a check to see that all of our tools and equipment are ready for the tasks ahead. After sharpening blades on sécateurs, cleaning forks and... Full Post >

Q&A with Blair Stanley

We were excited to catch up with designer Blair Stanley before this weekend's trunk show at Dovecote on Friday, March 13th and Saturday, March 14th. Check out the great thoughts he shared with us about this season's collection! What three words best describe your line? Classic with a twist, sophisticated and distinctive. What has been your inspiration this season? My inspiration is always textile driven. I believe the most beautiful styles derive from timeless fabrics with an... Full Post >
