The Fearrington House’s cake designer and chocolatière, Emma Isakoff, shared a classic sugar cookie recipe that sounds just scrumptious. These cookies are perfect for decorating and sharing with friends and family over the holidays! Enjoy!
Soft butter 1 & 1/2 cup
Sugar 2 cups
Vanilla 1 teaspoon
All purpose flour 5 cups
Baking powder 2 teaspoons
Salt 1/2 teaspoon
Sift flour, baking powder and salt and set aside. In a mixing bowl of a mixer with a paddle attachment, on medium speed, cream the butter and sugar until light in color and fluffy.
On low speed, add the eggs one at a time until they are completely incorporated. You can add the vanilla in with the eggs.
Add your sifted dry ingredients in two or three batches on low speed until just incorporated. Be careful not to over mix! Batter will be soft and sticky.
Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight until dough if firm. Once dough is chilled, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Flour a counter top well and roll out the dough to 1/8-1/4 inch thick.
Cut out shapes, place on baking sheet lined with parchment and bake for about 6-8 minutes, or until the edges turn golden. Baking times may vary based on oven temps and size of cookies.
