This Friday, March 20th marks the arrival of a much awaited Spring! While others are preparing for Spring cleaning, The Goat at Fearrington and Executive Chef Colin Bedford have been perfecting gelato — lots and lots of gelato!
Why gelato at The Goat rather than ice cream? “It’s a wonderful vehicle for showcasing local fruit and dairy,” said Chef Colin Bedford. “The idea started when we were experimenting with our housemade tea blends. The flavors and aroma of hot tea sparked an idea, that the tea would be awesome as something cold. And, then the answer was simple — gelato!”
It’s no surprise that the Fearrington Afternoon Tea with Lemon is Chef Bedford’s favorite flavor. Utilizing Fearrington’s signature afternoon tea to infuse the gelato overnight and then strain it in the morning. Essentially the same concept of making your regular cup of hot tea. “What can I say, in the summertime this is the perfect cuppa tea in the afternoon,” says Chef Bedford.
Fearrington’s gelato is made fresh in The Fearrington House kitchen and uses all natural ingredients. With flavors like dark chocolate, caramel sea salt, caramelized banana, brown butter and pecan and coconut, choosing which flavor to enjoy is the hardest part! We hear more flavors including green tea, low-carb coffee, red wine and strawberry shortcake will be making an appearance at The Goat, too!
