Amy and Joseph tied the knot on May 7, 2016. These newlyweds said their “I dos” at the Willow Oaks, and danced the night away in the Fearrington Barn.
How did you and your partner meet?
Joseph and I met in law school at Campbell University – Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. He sat just a couple of seats down from me in class, and when we realized we had a mutual friend outside of school, we got to talking and a few weeks into the fall semester, he asked me to take a study break (on a Friday night! . . . we studied a lot.) and grab some dinner. I’m so glad that I did; it felt like I was spending time with someone that I’d known for years. We spent the evening talking about our nieces – mine had just been born, and his had just turned one – our favorite movies, and laughing for what felt like the first time since we started school. Almost five years and two cats later, we couldn’t be happier.
Tell us about the engagement.
While we love going out and trying new restaurants or bars, or catching a movie or concert, Joseph and I also love spending time at home, watching movies with our fur babies, Franklin and Bash. Our engagement took place doing exactly that, and it was perfect. He passed me a little note in the middle of the movie and I opened it up and he had asked me to check a box next to whether or not I would marry him. When I looked up, he was holding my grandmother’s ring. I was completely caught off guard – I knew that he had asked my father’s permission, but I was not expecting it at all that night.
What made Fearrington the place for you to say “I do?’
My parents used to bring me to Fearrington when I was a little girl. We had family that lived in the village, and I loved visiting the Oreo cows and goats, or the “belties.” When we got engaged, we decided to take a quick look one day while my parents were in town. We met them over at The Granary for a quick lunch and then we treated to a tour. As always, the belties charmed me, but when we walked into the barn, beautifully lit for a wedding that evening, it was a done deal.
Describe the highlight moment of your wedding day.
Our wedding day feels like such a blur, but I think that one of my favorite parts was our exchange of rings. I was so nervous that I gave Joseph my right hand instead of my left, and just after he’d placed it on my finger, I looked down at my new wedding band and realized that it was on the wrong hand. I was so embarrassed, but Joseph just smiled and laughed as I handed him my other hand to make the switch. Being able to laugh at moments like that reminds me that I’m lucky enough to have married my favorite person in the world.
Is there anything you want to add about your wedding story?
We are so grateful for all the preparation that went into our day to make it absolutely perfect. From the decor to our funfetti wedding cake – I was so embarrassed to ask for funfetti while we sat in the beautiful Fearrington House Restaurant doing our tasting, but Joseph spoke up and Paola made it happen! – to the send off at the end of the night, everything was beyond what I imagined.
