Halloween at Dovecote Style

Who says you’re too old to celebrate Halloween?

Here at Dovecote, we say you’re never too old to play dress-up any day of the year! We’ve got a couple ideas that put to rest the notion that there’s a limit on this particular brand of fun.

Audrey Hepburn
The classic Halloween costume and for a good reason: Audrey Hepburn was a class act all the way and whether you’re going the Holly Golightly route with a sleek black dress (ours is TY-LR), chunky necklace (love the modern take from Fairchild-Baldwin!) and heels, or the casual everyday Audrey with an oversized white shirt, cigarette pant and flats, we’ve definitely got this costume in the bag. The best part? You can wear these pieces long after the Halloween chill has left the air! Audrey never goes out of style.

Jackie O
Another classic and so much fun. Think cashmere coats in classic shapes and surprising colors (love this teal from Kinross!), pillbox hats, and to-the-knee skirts that have that bit of 60’s swing. Add large sunglasses and a kitten heel and you’re perfectly set. Also ideal for a couple’s costume!

Game of Thrones
Something a bit outside of the box for the sci-fi/fantasy ladies who love their dragons and sweeping epic storylines. We had quite a bit of fun with this one, pairing a leather dress with a fur infinity scarf and fringed leather necklace. Chunky jewels from Dominique Denaive and strappy shoes from French Sole complete our modern take on the look. Winter is coming indeed.

Olivia Pope
This TY-LR coat is reminiscent of D.C. fixer Olivia Pope for a reason: it’s sharp, streamlined, and modern. Pair with sensible pants, a power shoe from Bettye Muller and a business-like bag from Joanna Maxham. Add a gauzy scarf to show your softer side to President Fitz!

The Butterfly Room

Our General Manager Theresa Chiettini’s favorite room is easily Room 34, one of our luxurious Grand Suites in The Park Building. With a large sitting area, a king bed with a beautifully crafted headboard, a bathroom with an incredible jacuzzi tub, and a private patio, this room is hard to beat. As you walk through the gate into your private patio, the bubbling fish pond to your left offers a calming serenity to begin your stay. Above the small set of table and chairs is a charming metal... Xan & Amanda

Xan and Amanda tied the knot on June 1, 2015. These newlyweds said their 'I dos' under the Crab Apples and danced the night away in the Fearrington Barn. How did you and your partner meet? Amanda and I met through a mutual friend, Lindsey, who connected us and thought we would hit it off, although we are still not sure if Lindsey thought we would make good friends or good partners. Amanda was home in Bethesda, M.D, for spring break from grad school in Nashville and I was living in DC at... Full Post >

Style Defined: AVANT GARDE

This look was styled by Jeanne. Playing with proportions is a big part of the avant-garde sensibility. With a new line, Strenesse, we’re showing that off to great effect. We love the detail on the top, as it’s almost peplum-esque and very flattering. This is a new kind of suiting, utilizing a trendy cropped wide leg pant to finish the outfit. We love it paired with an inspired choice from Jeanne: a leopard pony hair pump from Emy Mack and a Gatsby-inspired deco clutch. Perfect for... Full Post >

Q&A with Isabelle Fish

We were excited to catch up with Isabelle Fish, for Rue Pigalle, before her trunk show at Dovecote on Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th. Here is what she shared with us about her exquisite collection! What three words best describe your line? Elegant, diverse, unmistakably french. What has been your inspiration this season? Flat bronze, deep sea blue, rich cocoa brown with a hint of mimosa yellow are my colour palette. I was inspired by the Cote d'Azur in the fall when... Full Post >
