At McIntyre's Books

There were so many great books to choose from in 2016, but I put everyone’s feet to the literary fire until they coughed up just one pick.
Keebe went with Lee Smith’s Dimestore: “wonderful snippets from the life of one of my favorite authors.”
After a long awkward pause during which Pete struggled with some deep-level Sophie’s Choices, he finally picked The Sellout by Paul Beatty: “after twenty years, people are finally noticing how talented this guy is.”
Mouse called The Long Black Curl by Alex Bledsoe: this book explores “the magic and mystique of mountain music.”
Sarah’s favorite was Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi: “a tour de force!”
Katherine’s “best, big-hearted book” of the year is David Arnold’s Kids of Appetite.
And I like reading about biodiversity, so I’m going with Fred Pearce’s The New Wild: Why Invasive Species Will Be Nature’s Salvation. Nature’s nonnative wildlife get a bad rap, but they’re out there doing good work, people!
We can’t wait to see what materializes in 2017!

At Fearrington House Restaurant
Ice is a bar ingredient that many people often overlook. In simple terms, it’s frozen water. It is frozen water that is shaken or stirred with spirits to chill or dilute a cocktail. Take a look at the ice that you have in your freezer – it is cloudy because of the natural impurities and gases in the frozen water. Now imagine ice that you can see through.
There are two things that I like to observe when I am at a bar – if my bartender automatically pours me water, and the quality of the... Full Post >
At McIntyre's Books, Fearrington Events
Master storyteller Donald Davis filled the Fearrington Barn on Saturday and Sunday, delighting audiences with his annual holiday yarns. McIntyre's is always honored to be the finale of Mr. Davis's annual nation-wide tour!
In its 25th year with McIntyre’s Books, Davis’ performances raised critical relief for CORA, Chatham County’s Food Bank: over $1,000 was raised and over 1,500 pounds of canned goods were donated over the weekend.

This holiday season, McIntyre's Books shared holiday cheer with Chatham County students through their Reindeer Reader program. Since Giving Tuesday, more than 1,500 students will receive a beginning reader book to take home over the holidays. Generous sponsors of the program gifted $40 donations to purchase books for a classroom of kindergarten and first-grade students.
"The gift of literacy is irreplaceable and benefits us all,” says Bookstore Manager Keebe Fitch. “Sarah Carr, our... Full Post >
