Karri & Eric

Karri and Eric tied the knot on July 5, 2014. These newlyweds said their “I dos” in the Crabapple Gardens and danced the night away at the Fearrington Barn.

How did you and your partner meet?
After years of living 10 blocks apart from each other in New York City, it only took one day to meet through Match.com. Eric was encouraged by his sister to sign up after she met her husband through Match.com, and I was encouraged by my dad who was concerned about the quality of men lingering in NYC bars. Eric signed up immediately upon seeing my photo. We had an amazing first date, and one month later we deleted our Match profiles.

Tell us about the engagement?
Eric tried several times to propose to me, but his friends and our relatives kept beating him to the punch or I would get sick on planned occasions. He finally found the right moment on vacation in Miami’s South Beach overlooking the water. At dinner the night before, unplanned, I received a fortune cookie that said “Something you have been waiting for, for a long time is about to come true.” What are the odds?!

What made Fearrington the place for you to say “I do?’
The beauty of the grounds at Fearrington and the accolades for the food made it a hands-down pick. We really wanted a farm-to-table atmosphere and I really wanted a garden ceremony. There are 4 outdoor locations at Fearrington! It’s also where I grew up so we just asked 85% of our wedding party to come meet us for our big day and they did! So many of our guests keep talking about how amazing it was and saying they wanted to re-visit. Plus the fact that Fearrington had an on site caterer, florist and coordinator also made the process much easier for us to plan!

Describe the highlight moment of your wedding day.
Aside from seeing my fiancé at the alter and hearing the crack in his voice when we exchanged vows, the Crabapples site was a breathtaking location for the ceremony. Looking out at everyone I just wanted to freeze time. It goes by so fast! Knowing that this was probably the one time we’d have all of our favorite people in one place from all over the country made it truly special. Everyone had such an amazing time. The barn looked exquisite. Gilda and her team went above and beyond to help execute the vision I had imagined. And the flowers were spectacular! I kept stopping to look at them. Mary is so talented!

Is there anything you want to add to your wedding story?
I knew I wanted to get married at Fearrington years before the proposal, so I would take Eric there for lunch or dinner anytime he came home with me to visit. I wish we had stayed an extra day after we got married just so we could fully enjoy the magic of Fearrington amidst the bustle of the event, but we plan to make it a anniversary treat to ourselves as often as possible! Also I highly recommend Nick Pironio for photography!

The Perfect Final Touch

We asked Fearrington's Wine Director Maxmilian Kast if there was one wine he thought encompassed the holidays, and he had so many favorites he said it might take him until next Christmas to choose! He did decide on Domaine Tempier Bandol Rouge Cuvée Classic. "A wine that encompasses the holidays would be Domaine Tempier Bandol Rouge Cuvée Classic. It was one of the first wines I bought for Christmas in my early years as a Sommelier, and the scents and flavors of that wine from my... Full Post >
