We were thrilled to chat with designer Cara May before her trunk show at Dovecote on Saturday, August 20th and Sunday, August 21st. Here is what she shared with us about the collection!
What three words best describe your line?
Artisanal, understated, deconstructed.
What has been your inspiration this season?
I have been doing quite a bit of hiking in the Great Craggy Mountains this summer. There is something magical about the native grasses and evergreen shrubs up there that all make up this giant backcountry bonsai garden that is packed with color and texture. I am certain that wood nymphs and fairies live up there! Every time I head into these mountains I am just struck at how amazingly beautiful and serene it is. It inspires and humbles me.
What is your favorite piece from your collection and why?
My favorite piece is the Wabi Sabi pull. This is my signature sweater, and the piece that really got me started designing and making knitwear. I love the distressed crumpled texture of the lightly felted merino wool and silk-wrapped stainless steel. I also love making these because I am never fully certain how they will look after I finish the felting process.
How do you view your personal style?
My style is interesting yet subtle – nothing bright or flashy – and it has to be loose and comfortable. I wear a neutral palette, and the pieces I make definitely reflect my personal taste. Really, my collections are created in response to what I want to wear myself.
Do you have recommendations on styling items from your collection?
I love to layer asymmetrical tunics under a pullover or a cropped shrug. My knits are terrific and versatile layering pieces. They look great over jeans or over a taffeta skirt.
If you could provide one piece of fashion advice, what would it be?
Dress to please and express yourself. Like it or not, our clothing speaks volumes about us. My business tag line is “Shine out in silence.”
We hope to see you this weekend!
We were excited to speak with Kimberly Abell, for Equestrian Designs, before her trunk show at Dovecote on Saturday, August 20th and Sunday, August 21st. Here is what she shared with us about the collection!
What was your inspiration this season?
The colors of the Santa Inez Valley: the vineyards, the apple farms and horse farms.
How does your brand develop from season to season?
Equestrian offers basic silhouettes all year but we introduce new legs and lengths to the line every... Full Post >

At The Fearrington House Inn
Did you know The Fearrington House Inn donates gently-used bed linens, towels and bed slippers?
On average, The Fearrington House Inn donates approximately one hundred bags of materials per year to charitable organizations. These materials have created over 1,000 bandages and over 500 dresses to date, in addition to many other projects.
Fearrington started donating gently-used linens and other materials because many organizations needed fabric, but couldn't afford to purchase any... Full Post >
