Chelsea & Jason

Chelsea and Jason tied the knot on May 31st, 2014. They held their ceremony at Fearrington’s Crab Apple Trees and celebrated their “I dos” in The Fearrington Barn!

How did y’all meet?

Jason and I met through mutual friends at a restaurant/bar in Knightdale, NC. Much to my surprise, our friends had arranged for us to meet that night and Jason knew about me. I was oblivious to our friends’ plan and thought it was just another night out. I guess you could say it was a “partial blind-date.”

Tell us about the engagement?

Jason and I went to visit his sister and her husband in Chicago in November of 2012. His mom and dad were also along for the trip. We had a lot of sight seeing planned since it was our first time visiting the city. On the Friday of that week (November 2nd), we had a full day plan with a tour of Soldier Field, lunch at famous Al’s Italian Beef and shopping along the streets of Old Town. As we were walking through Old Town we “stumbled” (I later found out that Jason and his sister had been planning this for weeks) upon the staging area for the horse & carriage rides through the city. His family quickly enticed us to take a quick ride and then walked off towards a small cafe. My immediate thought was that something wasn’t quite right, but I couldn’t pin point it. In the brisk Chicago air, Jason and I took a 30 minute horse & carriage ride through the streets of Old Town. We were all wrapped up in a flannel blanked and making our way back down the start we began our trip on when Jason turned to me a began “the speech.” Unfortunately, as soon as I saw him pull the ring from his jacket pocket and I realized what was happening, I began to cry and completely lost focus on what he was saying. After reminding me that I never answered him (like it wasn’t obvious that it was a “yes”), I gave him the verbal affirmation he was looking for. We spent the rest of the evening in Chicago celebrating with his family.

What made Fearrington the place for you to say “I do?”

When Jason and I began our search for the perfect venue to celebrate the start of our lives together, we knew we wanted a certain feel. Both of us are very laid back and find comfort in the simple things – southern food, family, friends and good music. As soon as we got to Fearrington to take a tour of the property, we just knew that it was right! We immediately felt at ease and could not think of celebrating such an important day anywhere else.

Describe one of the highlight moments of your wedding day.

There were so many amazing moments from our wedding day – from getting ready with all of my girls to dancing the night away with all of my friends and family to beach music from Jim Quick and the Coastline Band. However, I think the best moment of the day was seeing Jason as I began walking down the aisle towards him. Although I knew everyone was there and looking at my dad and I entering the gardens, it almost felt as if Jason and I were alone. And even with the distance between us, I have never felt closer or more connected to him than in that moment.

Anything you want to add about your wedding story?

I would like to just take this opportunity to thank everyone at Fearrington who helped make Jason and I’s wedding dreams come true. The entire weekend was simply amazing and it could not have been done without all of the hard work by the Fearrington staff! Jason and I sincerely thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!

South African Winemakers Visit Fearrington

On September 18th, South African winemakers Eben Sadie and Adi Badenhorst will visit us for a four-course dinner at the Garden Terrace. Not only are these two winemakers distinguished, and altering the state of wine in South Africa, they also love what they do -- and you can tell once you sip a glass of their wine. I was lucky enough to spend a day with Adi last year. He is an amazingly passionate guy, a passion that is infectious, and that passion shows in his wines. Eben's wines are... Full Post >
