Big Bottles of Fresh Brews!

We’ve had a few new beers make their debut at The Goat recently, and these newcomers are definitely worth a try!

“Calabaza Blanca” White Ale $14

Origin: Dexter, Michigan, USA

This is for those of us who want something more substantial than the beer flavored water that’s typically peddled with the warmer weather. The barrel aging really shows in this, but you also get the leaner citrus rind and pithy notes on the nose. And, it’s not too bitter.  A touch of marzipan, clove, and honeycomb bring some balance to this dry, middleweight ale that finishes a little quickly, but with all smiles!

“Helios” Farmhouse Ale $7

Origin: Downington, Pennsylvania, USA

This is a farmhouse ale that has just the right balance. The right amount of sour, the right amount of lemon peel and grass, and the right amount of funk that gives these beers their distinctive style. A little sun is good for the soul, and perhaps for the beer as well!  Solid warm weather beer for the money.

“Kapuziner” Bavarian Hefeweizen $6

Origin: Kulmbach, Bavaria, Germany

Any beer that has “Hefe-Weizen must be drunk from a glass – never from the bottle” on the label must be taken seriously.  Whether you agree with that statement or not [I certainly don’t blame you if you disagree] this is an awesome beer!  An unmistakable hefeweizen, with loads of orange and lemon zest, clove, and cereal grains in a nicely balanced, though full flavored and full bodied brew.

Koppi” Coffee IPA $16

Origin: De Proefbrouwerij, Belgium

They’re putting coffee in everything nowadays!  You’ve seen it in porters and stouts, now get a little perk out of this IPA. Citrusy right off the bat, you can thank the extremely aromatic Citra hops for that, with the coffee really settling in once it’s in the glass. Definitely interesting, the milky, hazy orange color alone is enough to raise some eyebrows.  Cheers!

Flowers and Mother's Day are almost a foregone conclusion, but keeping the tradition alive doesn't have to mean supermarket roses or dyed carnations. Local Farmer's Markets are exploding with floral beauty at this time of year, and putting together something as special as Mom is can be as simple as purchasing a few spectacular blooms, augmenting with fresh greenery from your own garden, and wrapping the stems with a bit of fabric ribbon to make the perfect tussie-mussie!
