Holiday Packing Tips

I have found that a little forethought ensures my holiday travel stays full of good cheer! Here are a few of my tried-and-true packing tips for travel during the busiest time of the year.

Make a list and check it twice!
Thinking it through not only helps me pack more efficiently, but putting it on paper gives me a reference sheet that can be edited for future travel. I have also found that I forget a lot less by having a checklist!

Double-duty
Decide on a color scheme and pack key interchangeable pieces that can be dressed up or down with accessories. If traveling by plane, be sure to include what you are wearing as part of your overall game plan and remember that looking nice just might get you an upgrade!

Accessorize!
Scarves, clutches, belts, interesting costume jewelry and a great pair of shoes are the mood-makers in your suitcase that can take your look from day to the most festive night with a few key change-ups. And they take up little to no room in your suitcase!

Stack and Roll
I have found the two best ways to make the most efficient use of space and be guaranteed no wrinkles are stacking with tissue between your layers or rolling tightly – filling every nook and cranny so no slipping around. Anything silk I leave in a dry cleaning bag and the folds will not crease! If I am packing garments and toiletries in the same suitcase, I always put a towel between the two layers in case of leakage during flight – and this also serves as light padding to cushion the blows when your bag is tossed around.

The Big Bag Theory
I travel with a tote that is big enough to hold my purse as well as a scarf that can double as a blanket on the plane, my iPad and 3 pouches – one with travel documents, one with chargers, and one with toiletries. Once I reach my destination, this might become a beach bag, a work tote, or an overnight bag if moving about. If I am worried about my luggage being lost, a fourth pouch might house a bathing suit or change of clothes. Compartmentalization is everything!

Lost and Found
And finally, if my bag is lost, I want to be sure it can find me, so I tag it on the inside as well as the outside in case the latter comes off during transit!

Happy holidays and safe travels!

Sunset Hues for Fall

I think that fall weddings can be lush and romantic – without having to be kitschy or overly theme-y. Brides are not limited to pumpkins filled with orange and red flowers. Softer, more romantic, antique tones work beautifully for autumn events. Think of sunset hues. Seasonal foliage, softer greens, blush, peach, butter yellow, gold - can be just as seasonally appropriate as the bolder traditional tones. Full Post >

Casey & Clay

Casey and Clay tied the knot on September 6, 2014. These newlyweds said their "I dos" at beautiful offsite church in Chapel Hill, and danced the night away in the Fearrington Barn. How did you and your partner meet? As new students at UNC-Chapel Hill we had a lot of mutual friends, but our paths never crossed (though Clay claims he noticed me several times at the Rams Head dining hall). We were officially introduced at the end of our sophomore year, but I left soon after to study... Full Post >

Tipton & Eric

Tipton and Eric tied the knot on July 12, 2014. These newlyweds said their "I dos" under the Crab Apples, and danced the night away at the Fearrington Barn. How did you and Eric meet? We met in 2011 in Orlando, Florida. At the time, Eric was working for the Orlando Magic, and I was a sixth grade math teacher in Orlando. Once we met and began talking, we immediately realized we had something in common: we were both from North Carolina! I admitted that I wanted to move back there... Full Post >
