Return of the Coffee Pecan Porter

Each year, when the air begins to cool, the smell of the fireplace in the lounge at the Fearrington House permeates and mixes with the aroma of our coffee roasting. The two together really do make you feel like you are in a quaint village in Europe, and when you walk into the restaurant and through the kitchens you feel the magic that goes into creating what we do everyday in the stores and restaurants.

There is one window in the restaurant that looks out to our herb garden and our ancient pecan trees. It was these very trees that inspired the drawing on the beer labels of the Fullsteam Fearrington Collaboration.

Sean Lilly Wilson and I walked under them a few autumns ago. In our talks about what beers we wanted to do, we knew that those trees were important as far imagery and as well as telling the story of our partnership. It also sparked the idea for our most successful seasonal beer so far, our Winter Coffee Pecan Porter. Though we do not use the pecans from these trees (maybe another year), we do use our own coffee that we roast at The Goat. The Pecans come from Georgia and add just touch of roundness and tannin to the beer.

Now in our third year of this beer, it almost feels like it can’t be winter or the holiday season with out it. We are tapping into the kegs this week and will be serving the Porter at the Fearrington House and The Granary, through out the winter. We will also have it in bottles at The Goat.

So, join in our Winter tradition here at the Fearrington House, and raise a glass of our Winter Porter in celebration of another great year of collaboration with our friend’s at Fullsteam.

This look was styled by Jeanne. We can think of nothing more classic than color-blocked cashmere. Flattering, luxurious and timeless, cashmere will never go out of style! We love this grey and black sweater, especially paired with its matching fringed scarf, both from Magaschoni. Keep it simple with a black ponte legging and a small structured satchel from Daniella Lehavi.
