April Showers

April was a glorious month for weddings – 70 degrees and no April Showers…until April 28th. We had a rainy day that Sunday, but I am happy to report that the weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits!

We always work with a good alternate weather plan, so that day we moved into the Garden House for Kirsti and Scott’s beautiful wedding.  After being together for 14 years now, the happy married couple skipped down the aisle to the tune of “Here Comes the Sun” and headed out with umbrellas in hand to take pictures in the gardens.

Best wishes to you, Kirsti and Scott!  You are delightful!

Wine of the Week [April 29-May 5]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, threaten your friends with levels of torture that would make Guantanamo Bay detainees feel appreciative if they so much as think about not finishing the very generous pour of 1990 J.J. Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese that you had to sacrifice your moral integrity to get your hands on, we here at The Goat would like to... Full Post >

Working, Living and Playing at Fearrington

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the Thai New Year Dinner at The Granary, one of the Cooks and Books events sponsored by McIntyre’s Books.  The author of Real Thai, Nancie McDermott, spoke about her books, her life and her passion for food, as well as, her wonderful insight into Thai cooking, Thai culture and Thai people -– and even a bit of Southeast Asia’s geography and history.  Colin Bedford and his team outdid themselves with 10 different Thai dishes, from... Are you a Durham Bulls first-timer?

Don’t worry -- everyone in Durham is friendly and it is guaranteed you’ll have a blast! Check the schedule and make some plans to go and cheer for The Durham Bulls. Allow yourself some extra time and arrive early to have a cold pint at the award winning Full Steam Brewery before the game. If it happens to be a Friday, this is your lucky day -- the game will end with a great display of fireworks! We know hot dogs and pretzels are a hard thing to resist, however, make some room for one last... Full Post >

Peonies!

This morning my day was made as I entered the flower shop and was greeted by bright coral peonies! Every year I look forward to May when these beauties are blooming in our gardens and most brides use them in their bouquets and centerpieces. To me as a wedding planner, peonies are the ultimate romantic, soft flower for weddings and just plain gorgeous! The coral ones are my favorite; they start off bright and happy and with time turn a pale yellow. Just amazing! Full Post >
