Q&A with Designer Lorain Croft

We were thrilled to talk with Lorain Croft, the designer for Lorain Croft. She will be here for a trunk show at Dovecote this weekend, Saturday, October 18th & Sunday, October 19th. Here’s what she told us about her personal style and this incredible collection.

What has been your inspiration this season?
Luxurious fabrics, rich in color and texture – I need to connect with how the design will feel on the body, how it will affect the mood of the wearer.

What is your favorite piece from your collection and why?
The Safari gold alpaca coat! It will enrich your wardrobe and is extremely comfortable to wear. This fabric drapes beautifully and the design enhances a variety of body types. It also can go from day to night with ease.

How do you view your personal style?
I would consider my personal style classic, bold and eclectic at times. I love to mix different styles and textures.

Do you have recommendations on styling items from your collection?
My collection this season consists mainly of jackets and blouses constructed in novelty fabrics. The collection may be interpreted as evening wear, however my designs have the versatility to be worn for many occasions. It all depends on how they are styled and accessorized.

For a sophisticated day to evening look I would suggest wearing a Lorain Croft blouse or jacket open, with a silky camisole (or lightweight top) underneath. Put this with a jean/stove pant and a great pair of boots and you are ready for a work day or an evening out

If you could provide one piece of fashion advice, what would it be?
My best fashion advice is to wear clothing that not only flatters your body, but is comfortable and easy to wear. Clothes should enhance your day and make you feel wonderful!

Join us at Dovecote Saturday and Sunday to see this gorgeous line! We look forward to styling you!

Layering Tips for Fall

At the first hint of change in the air, I am always ready to update up my wardrobe with a pop of something fresh and new for the upcoming season. This season, I am all about gray foundation pieces, luxurious cashmere in luscious colors as toppings, and a spot of leopard which, in my opinion, is always in style but never more than this season! Transformation Tuesday

Inspired by our most recent Kinross trunk show and the continuing delightful fall weather, we've fully embraced cashmere for today and every day. Today we have a cute fall look for a coffee or lunch date. We've taken our very favorite Wilt top, a beautifully draped navy blouse and layered it with a fabulous camel Kinross cashmere jacket (say that five times fast!) We like to play with proportions and see what works and in this case, a pant with a bit of flare works wonderfully with the... Full Post >

Transformation Tuesday

Have we got something in store for you on this beautiful Tuesday...double the transformation! We've been particularly inspired this week, after a five day trunk show with Anarkh Designs, loads of new items coming through the shop and this delightful Fall weather reminding us just how beautiful the season can be. Look #1! Today we've taken a relatively nondescript outfit of gray and black (though, admittedly, we are mildly obsessed with her scarf) and taken the classic stylish equestrian... Full Post >

Falling for Autumn Flowers

Fearrington's incredibly talented floral designer Mary Stevens shared a few ideas about how to incorporate seasonal flowers into a beautiful fall wedding! "I think that fall weddings can be lush and romantic – without having to be kitschy or overly themed. Brides are not limited to pumpkins filled with orange and red flowers. Softer, more romantic, antique tones work beautifully for autumn events. Think of sunset hues. Seasonal foliage, softer greens, blush, peach, butter yellow, gold -... Full Post >
