Lindsey & Joe

Lindsey and Joe tied the knot on February 27, 2016. These newlyweds said their “I do”s in the Garden Terrace and danced the night away in The Barn!

How did you and your partner meet?
Joe and I met through mutual friends in Washington, D.C. at a poker tournament he and his roommates hosted every week. After meeting him in January 2011, I called my mom and told her that I was pretty sure I met the man I was going to marry that night. He needed a little more convincing than me – four years of convincing – but we’re coming up on year six together and still going strong.

Tell us about the engagement?
The proposal came out of no where for both Joe and myself. We were long distance – I was in Washington, D.C., and he was in North Carolina – for three years and had discussed getting married, but we didn’t really have a timetable in mind . . . well, he didn’t have a timetable in mind – I’d had one since the first poker game. All we really knew was that long distance was wearing on both of us, and we wanted to be in the same city sooner rather than later. One gloomy, June Sunday morning, I was packing my bag to head back to DC. I was still in pajamas and hadn’t brushed my hair – or teeth, probably – but Joe grabbed my hand and got down on one knee. He popped the question with no ring and no plan and said, “I can’t let you go back to DC this time without proposing. I know this isn’t the most romantic proposal, but I just know that I want to marry you. We’ll figure the rest out later.” A little dumbfounded, I said, “Of course I’ll marry you!” and the next trip down – three weeks later – he proposed again, this time with the most beautiful diamond ring you’ve ever seen.

What made Fearrington the place for you to say “I do?”
Joe graduated with his MBA from UNC in 2014, and I traveled to Chapel Hill frequently to visit him and fell in love with everything that was in and around the area. For as long as I can remember I’d wanted a rustic wedding with an elegant flair – before it was all the rage – and Fearrington gave us all of that and then some. Not only is the venue amazing, but Gilda McDaniel, our wedding coordinator, was absolutely wonderful. She answered every question I had and even some that I hadn’t thought of, and always responded to my many emails almost immediately. To say that she made everything happen flawlessly would be an understatement.

Describe the highlight moment of your wedding day?
I don’t think I could pick just one highlight. Fearrington’s wedding team is top notch and made sure that everything flowed seamlessly – like when I forgot my bouquet right before my daddy and I walked down the aisle. Gilda moved at lightning speed to grab it from the bridal suite so that my guests weren’t waiting too long for me to arrive – they may have thought I’d jilted my groom for a minute though. The food, the drinks, the décor, the fire place in the garden terrace – everything was exactly how I wanted it to be. Just perfect.

Anything you want to add about your wedding story?
I looked at dozens of venues and met with several wedding coordinators, and none of the venues were as beautiful as Fearrington nor employed people who were as helpful as Gilda and her team. Any vision I had, Gilda made sure to make it happen. Joe and I could not have been any happier with the way our wedding day turned out, and if I had to do it all over again, I’d pick Fearrington again – every single time.
