Helping in Haiti

For the second year in a row I had the good fortune to travel and spend a week in Haiti in a little village named Cite Soleil. Cite Soleil is known for its dense population and extreme poverty. I travel with a group of fellow nurses, doctors, and construction crews as well as missionary workers.

We provided the community with much needed health care ranging from basic medicines, such as aspirin and vitamins, to more pressing needs such as antibiotics and first aid care for severe wounds and diseases.

This year we treated approximately 700 Haitians who were in desperate need of heath care, many of which were women and children. Our team also rebuilt 4 roofs that were damaged beyond repair. After our efforts, four families are protected from the rain and harsh weather.

I have seen how a group of passionate people can impact the lives of the people of Haiti in such a short time. I am so grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait for my trip next year.

For me, this retreat can often be found in a glass of wine. How, you might ask, can a glass of wine provide a momentary... Full Post >

Ben and I were friends from high school, but were two years apart in age. We reconnected over Christmas break during my sophomore year at East Carolina University and Ben's senior year at Auburn. As Ben was getting ready to leave to finish his final semester of college, he told me after our very... Full Post >
