R.B. Fitch began creating Fearrington Village in 1974 and has been crafting Fearrington at a steady, measured pace ever since. From offices in Fearrington’s Village Center, R.B. has built a village of nearly 2,000 residents, and it remains our sole focus. His late wife Jenny was instrumental in starting Fearrington, for example decorating model homes that garnered national media attention and starting the Village Center. Fitch Creations, Inc. continues to be a family business, run by R.B. and assisted by daughter Keebe and son Greg.
Located next to the college town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Fearrington today seamlessly blends the old with the new, the regional with the cosmopolitan, a distinct sense of place with the unexpected. The result is both reassuring and forward looking, exciting and comforting.
Fearrington’s neighborhoods have won both national and regional media coverage for both thoughtful land planning and innovative housing designs. Fearrington has long reflected feedback from customers who are both design and environmentally conscious (learn more about our green building practices).
Because one company, Fitch Creations, is both Fearrington’s builder and developer, almost everyone involved in the creation of your home – our sales, design and construction teams – is singularly focused on ensuring your satisfaction. Many members of our team have been with us for more than 20 years, meaning that we bring a wealth of expertise and skills to each house we construct.
Fitch Creations, Inc. also owns and manages most of the businesses in the Village Center, including not only the flagship Fearrington House Inn and Restaurant, but also The Spa at Fearrington, McIntyre’s Books, other restaurants including The Fearrington Granary Restaurant, The Belted Goat Deli and Roost, a beer garden; shops that include Dovecote and Haven, and a weddings and meetings business. Regardless of the business, we hope you’ll find Fearrington a rejuvenating retreat for the senses.
R.B. Fitch, Developer
R.B. and his late wife, Jenny, purchased the Fearrington dairy farm in 1974 and soon started converting the farm and surrounding land into a country village. The original farm house and outbuildings now house the shops and restaurants of the village center, while over 1,200 families have homes nestled in the surrounding woodlands and fields.
