  Book Clubs and McIntyre's
In addition to our own book club, Bookends,
McIntyre’s is pleased to serve many local book clubs as well. Register your club with us and we’ll be happy to give you great ideas for future book club selections, as well as a 20% discount for your members.

McIntyre's Bookends book club is a departure from the usual one-book-at-a-time format. Instead, we present lively and engaging discussions focusing on pairs of novels (or short stories or poems) that explore noteworthy literary themes from both classic and contemporary perspectives. If you are interested in joining Bookends, give us a call at (919) 542-3030 or drop by the shop.

  The McIntyre's Team
Behind every great independent book shop is a knowledgeable and passionate team of booksellers who thrive on sharing great books they've discovered and helping patrons find exactly what they're looking for. We'd like to introduce you to ours:

Keebe Fitch, Manager
Keebe first opened McIntyre's in 1989. Daughter of R.B. and Jenny Fitch, Fearrington's creators, Keebe has been a part of the Fearrington family business since the early 1980s. When R.B. felt that an independent bookstore would be an ideal addition to Fearrington's growing Village Center, he turned to Keebe to put it all together. In addition to earning a BA in History from UNC, she also received an MBA from Kenan Flagler's Business School.

Pete Mock, Book Buyer & Mystery Guru
Pete calls them as he reads them. He came to McIntyre's in 1995 and has developed quite a reputation for recommending lesser-known mystery authors and often-missed authors from other genres. He's never short on opinions but is willing to back up what he has to say. Customers come in and call regularly to check on what he's reading and make plans accordingly! Pete is also the author of our blog.

Christie Kimsey, Bookseller
Christie is a Carolina native and enjoys reading adult and young adult novels while studying for her Masters in Library Sciences at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She's especially good at reading whatever books Pete doesn't want to...

The McIntyre's Story
R.B. Fitch and his late wife Jenny purchased the farm in 1974 and they named the community Fearrington to honor the stewardship of Jesse and his forebears. The Fitches slowly and deliberately began to craft a unique community from the rolling pastures and wooded acres of the farm, where residents would enjoy dining, relaxing, shopping and living.

Avid travelers, the Fitches admired the smaller villages of England and modeled the Fearrington Village Center after those they visited. They wanted to create a "coming together place" where one could pick up daily necessities, lunch with friends, all enjoyed in a English garden setting. They also enjoyed browsing bookstores when traveling and felt a bookshop would be a good fit for Fearrington...and his eldest daughter Keebe would be just the person to create one.

A voracious reader, Keebe spent more of her time at UNC in the Bull’s Head Bookshop than attending class, which actually proved beneficial for her calling. Fearrington architect Jon Condoret designed the handsome two-story building housing McIntyre's and Jenny created its upscale yet relaxed interior. In 1989, the Fitch family opened the doors to McIntyre’s Books, so named in honor of R.B. Fitch's mother.

The bookstore's collection was designed to be a reflection of Fearrington itself. In addition to fiction and non-fiction works, the collection emphasizes cooking, gardening and books by local authors.
