Wine of the Week [December 29th - January 4th]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, use a combination of Voodoo magic and persuasive negotiating (begging) to select the bottle of Champagne for New Years, we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m. Spain is the country... Wine of the Week [December 22nd - December 28th]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, wonder why Santa drank all of the 1989 Joseph Longen Spatlese that I asked for on Christmas, we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m. To bubbly or not to bubbly, that is the... Staff Picks

Thank you to our holiday treat-bearers. For the past week, I've dealt with chocolate mouth, the dehydration that comes from eating only chocolate all day long. With these sweet gifts, we've added about fifteen to twenty lbs. to our staff. No matter. We'll shed our hibernating weight in the new year. Until then, we read! Here's a peek at books we've enjoyed lately. We'll start with Pete's pick, Goat Mountain. A boy hunting with his family spies a poacher in his gun's scope. The boy... Full Post >

A Gingerbread House for the Ages

Recently, we had the privilege of being a part of the 11th annual Gingerbread Benefit held at The Umstead Hotel in Cary. This event is opened to the public and designed to raise money for Triangle Family Services. The nonprofit organization supports families in our community through financial counseling, housing assistance, heath treatments, and counseling for individuals of domestic violence. Each year, dozens of talented bakeries and restaurants volunteer to build gingerbread houses that are... Full Post >

Wine of the Week [December 15th - December 21st]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, make it a personal mission to be able to distinguish A.O.C. Beaujolais from Beaujolais-Village in a blind tasting, we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m. The expansive Loire Valley... Trimming the Tree

Fearrington's ever ingenious gardeners used a brief period of downtime to transform the large Christmas tree in the heart of the Village Center. You'll now find it decorated with bright orange clementines wrapped in raffia, berry cuttings from nandinas and hollies wrapped in ribbon remnants, pine cones rolled in paint and glitter and more. Very clever - and biodegradable too! Full Post >

Dashing All The Way!

We have so many unique gift ideas for decking your halls – or someone else’s – if you are in search of really special gift ideas for those hard-to-shop-for folks on your list. One of my favorites this season is this handsome Script Mache Deer Head offered in both a wall-mounted or tabletop version. Add your own antlers (bare branches in our case) and give it its own unique personality. Such a cool piece that will live on far beyond the holidays! Especially wonderful for someone who loves... Wine of the Week [December 1st - December 7th]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, think seriously about the varietal composition of the wines of biblical times, we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m. The pair of wines that we have for this week is just as much a... Pat Conroy, Staff Picks, and more!

On the morning of Pat Conroy's visit, the rain and glop seems to be giving way to sun. I'd like to thank everyone for helping us sell out the event --without this kind of support, we wouldn't be around and we wouldn't be able to host authors of Conroy's caliber! Buying the books you want from McIntyre's has never been easier. Come through the door and get lost among our shelves or cozy up in front of the fireplace (no one has yet attempted to cook marshmallows). There's always one of the... Full Post >

Personal Touches

Wedding trends are certainly fun -- we all eagerly await the newest issue of Martha, too -- but it's the personal touches that make all the difference to me.  We see so many thoughtful, really meaningful, additions to weddings and those are the details that really stand out in my memory. Today's bride's family has spent hundreds of hours carefully folding these Japanese origami cranes to hang from the ceiling in the Barn halway and to give as favors to guests. I can only imagine the... Full Post >
