Our Wine Mission

Our goal for wine here at The Goat is to provide high quality, small production and affordable wine that is among the most delicious you can find in the state. We constantly work to achieve this goal by tasting an incredible amount of wine every week, weeding out the eh, the blah, and the so-so, settling only for what we ourselves would both buy for ourselves and happily serve to our guests. Working with small producers, however, presents a unique set of challenges. Sometimes we might only... Full Post >

Why I love my job…

To start with, The Fearrington House Restaurant team has an amazing dynamic. Without that kind of camaraderie and support, it’s quite hard to make things happen properly in a fine-dining environment. There is also great work-life balance. Over the years, the experiences that I’ve gained while working the floor helped me in achieving my Advanced Sommelier certification. Aside from that, it’s fun to have access to a lot of wines that I would normally not be able to experience and share... Full Post >

Extending that Halloween Feeling

Our Halloween Gladiolus are blooming by The Fearrington Granary, just about a week too late for their namesake holiday! These quirky plants get their "Halloween" name for their orange color and wacky appearance (plantsman Tony Avent calls them "a tacky plant for a tacky holiday"). At Fearrington we have eleven stalks in the "hot" garden between The Granary and McIntyre's Books. These plants are great perennials add a unique element to any garden. If Pumpkinfest is your favorite event of the... Full Post >

Stocking Stuffers

Not buying books saddens me, but McIntyre's has so many stocking stuffers that I must share them. This also gives me the opportunity to quote the great Mitch Hedberg: "A severed human foot is the ultimate stocking stuffer." Limbs are not our business, but the following items are: From hedgehog lip balm to owl kitchen timers to shark speakers, we've got gifts perfect for your friends that may love animals too much. A dragon keychain light will make you the envy of fantasy fans everywhere.... Full Post >

Wine of the Week [November 3rd – November 9th]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, research the difference between Pelaverga and Pelaverga Piccolo, we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m. This week's wine might be a little more familiar to most, as a relatively... Meet Ken Henderson

This is Ken. He may look like a mild-mannered man about town, but he is, in fact, a super hero. He is one of the guys who holds the Village together. And I'm not talking in the figurative sense here. I'm talking about a real tube of glue, hammer, or whatever tool it takes to keep this place running. Ken has been with Fearrington for 22 years now (he must have been a wee babe when he started working here). He started in construction, and after years of making certain all the final details in... First House Rises at Rutherford Close

Who doesn't love the smell of new construction! Exciting too for us after years of planning is seeing this inaugural home in our newest neighborhood, Rutherford Close, come to life. Here you're looking from the front living room through the framing and - hard to see - past large windows to an amazing pasture view. - Greg, VP Fitch Creations, Inc. Full Post >

Apples, Spice and Everything Nice

Now that the air has turned cool and the autumn leaves glow yellow, orange and red, we turn our thoughts to all things holiday…time with family, home-cooked meals and sweet delights come to mind. Bushels of apples, crisp and juicy, brown sugar, and sweet cinnamon create a wonderful recipe for our luxurious Spiced Apple spa treatments this holiday season. We are excited to share with you our newest treatments at The Spa at Fearrington. With the holidays in mind, now is the time to prepare... Full Post >

Staff Picks

Here are some books that have been keeping us up at night: The Labyrinth of Osiris by Paul Sussman "This book took me back to my childhood when I loved to read Robert Ludlum, Ken Follett, and others. Good international thrillers that pumped up the heartbeat and kept me reading way past any bedtime, much to my mother's chagrin. The Labyrinth of Osiris, set in the Mid-East and featuring a partnership between Israeli and Egyptian detectives, has done the very same thing... Full Post >
