“An Apple a Day”

As the air turns cool and the autumn leaves start to change with their majestic colors, we turn our thoughts to all things fall…bountiful harvests of beautiful fall delights come to mind. Bushels of apples, crisp and juicy, brown sugar, and sweet cinnamon create a wonderful recipe for luxurious Spiced Apple spa treatments. We are excited to share with you our newest treatments at The Spa at Fearrington. With autumn in mind, now is the time to prepare your skin and nails for the next... Full Post >

Wine of the Week [September 26th - October 2nd]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, spend way too much time thinking up corny wine jokes (What's a horse's favorite grape?.... Chardo-Neighhh!!), we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m. Bordeaux.  The very mention of... Castles & Retreats

For those that are not familiar, Castles and Retreats is the translation of a highly regarded organization Fearrington proudly is a part of called Relais & Chateaux.  Just a few weeks ago I overheard a guest that was checking-out of The Fearrington House Inn ask what exactly Relais & Chateaux meant.  The Front Desk associate gave the literal translation of the words and the guest agreed that our property certainly was just that - a relaxing retreat for them. Days after... Full Post >

Kelly and Noah’s Friday the 13th Wedding!

When I first met this fun-loving couple I knew they would have a great wedding! Kelly and Noah chose to get married on Friday the 13th -- bad luck some would say, but I think not! They had a gorgeous fall day with perfect weather. They said their "I Do's"  in the gardens with our Herb Garden as the backdrop. The nuptials were followed by a cocktail hour and BBQ style dinner under the Oak trees at the Garden Terrace. A Beautiful day for a gorgeous couple! I wish you only the best Mr. and... Full Post >

Staff Picks: This Is How You Lose Her

My girlfriend gave me This Is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz in hardcover for my birthday, and as of its release in paperback a week ago, I have not lost her. These short stories follow a narrator who continually does dumb things to women who readily retaliate. Diaz left me laughing and shaking my head at this guy who screws up his relationships in Larry David-esque ways. I'll read anything by an author who pens this line: "She was the kind of girlfriend God gives you young, so... Full Post >

Fall Colors

Look at this stunning composition between the Goat deli and the Bank at Fearrington - a tight space smaller than a Cooper Mini but layered with hydrangea, lirope, coleus and various groundcovers. The rose and burgundy colors welcome the season in, and the foliage contrasts are a real show stopper. Full Post >

She said Yes!

Congratulations to Wade Bramble and Elisabeth Brown on their engagement! The happy couple had dinner at The Fearrington Granary on September 16th, after which Wade popped the question over a champagne toast with friends. We are honored to have been chosen as the location for this wonderful event and wish Wade and Elisabeth years of happiness together. Full Post >

Wine of the Week [September 19th - September 25th]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, grow a freckle whenever someone says they hate Riesling (Blasphemy!), we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m. Ah, there is a nip in the morning air as of late. The cooler... Full Post >

Kayaking In Our Backyard

In under 20 minutes from leaving Fearrington Minerva and I were in our new (used) kayaks paddling in a beautiful cove on Jordan lake. Within 5 minutes, we had spotted three Osprey, one mature Bald Eagle and several Great Blue Herons. Whether you enjoy sailing, kayaking, trail walking, fishing or swimming, this State Park is right in our backyard – take advantage of it! Full Post >
