Holland, deel een (part one!)

One of the best parts of traveling to Holland was meeting a friend along the way. Jennifer and I have been chatting on the phone for years (and years, and years). She's my Dutch flower vendor. And she's been a part of my life for as long as I've been at Fearrington. And up until July, I had never laid eyes on her! When I told her that R.B. was arranging for me to see the Dutch auction, her immediate response was "Don't think you're going without me!" She was such a great hostess and... Full Post >

A Big Congrats to Paula

Paula de Pano has been working with me at The Fearrington House Restaurant since 2010.  When she started she had just graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in New York (the other CIA), and I could tell that she had a serious passion for wine.  In the beginning the majority of her experience was in the back of the house (restaurant speak for the kitchen), at first she was timid, shy, but always driven to get better.  She was always full of questions, and as soon as she got an... Staff Picks

From our bookshelves to yours, here are books that we won't shut up about at McIntyre's Books: The Unwinding by George Packer  This is modern America in a nutshell. Greed, avarice, and the quashing of the America dream (think Raleigh, NC) as told through the stories of people across the board. It reminded me of great narrative nonfiction like Nickel & Dimed and Fast Food Nation, very readable and though provoking. More -... Full Post >

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, approach the removal of the cork from an old bottle of wine like a surgical event (full scrubs, sterilized Ah so, Tessier periosteal elevator...) we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering wine every week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7...
