Springtime and Fabulous Wines

Starting today at the Fearrington House Restaurant, we will be offering new wines by the glass from magnums to usher in this beautiful Spring season. It doesn't happen too often, but when we open up magnums of wine for our guests, you can bet you'll be enjoying some of the best expressions of wines from those regions. First on the lineup is the 2009 La Pepiere, Clisson, Muscadet Sevre et Maine from the Loire Valley in France. This particular wine has been aged on its lees for... Full Post >

April at the Crabapple Trees

I am asked all the time what my favorite ceremony site is, and I honestly say that I like them all best at different times, depending on what the gardens are doing.  Our gardens are fabulous all the time, but each week one of them seems to have its special moment right then. Every week I find myself thinking "What a lucky bride to have THIS site for her wedding"...  we are so fortunate to have such a spectacular setting for our weddings throughout the year. This week, the Crabapples are... Full Post >

Wine of the Week [April 22-28]

Greetings fellow wine enthusiasts!  Regardless of the degree to which you identify with the term, whether you like to enjoy a glass every now and then, or, like me, have considered naming your children after obscure Italian grape varietals like Marzemino and Schioppettino, we here at The Goat would like to foster your love for the drink by offering two wines per week that we will showcase here in the blog, and have available for tasting on Fridays from 6~7 p.m. This week we'll be addressing... Daddy’s Girls

I was always a Daddy’s Girl, so it’s natural that I have a weakness for Fathers of the Bride on their little girls’ Big Day.  So touching… I had a wonderful surprise recently that absolutely made my day.  A very sweet and proud father of a bride who was married with us last August popped in to say hello, reminisce and thank us once again for being part of his family’s special day.  He instantly brought great cheer to a rainy afternoon.  Yes, I do have a fun job – I love being... Tenuta Mazzolino Wine Dinner

To start, I am very excited to be hosting Jean-Francois Coquard, the wine winemaker for Tenuta Mazzolino on May 8th at the Granary.  His wines are amazingly elegant, distinctive, and most importantly easy to drink.  Coquard, who is originally from Burgundy, has been the wine maker at this winery in Oltrepo Pavese for 30 years. They focus on Sparkling Wine (made in the Traditional Method, as they are made in Champagne), Chardonnay, Bonarda, and Pinot Noir.  Oltrepo Pavese is in the heart of... Full Post >

Leaving Home a Cook, Returning a Grand Chef

I turned 35 this year and realized that I have been cooking for 20 years. It was 14 years ago when I sat my parents down and told them that their only child was about to move across the Atlantic Ocean to pursue his career in Canada. I never really got to experience any of the great restaurants or witness the iconic chefs cooking in England, as I spent most of my time as a commis in the kitchen working hard, building a foundation and eventually moving up through the ranks. After five great... Full Post >

Sail into summer with a nautical flair! Have you noticed that anchors are everywhere this season - from totes to tabletop! I especially loved these diminutive gold anchor earrings from We Dream in Colour and just had to have them! Watch this trend surfacing throughout Dovecote this season on items such as tablecloths, pitchers, aprons and cosmetic bags. - Daneen, Merchandising Manager Full Post >
