Annual Folk Art Review

Thanks to everyone who visited the Fearrington Folk Art Show last weekend! Despite the surprise dusting of snow and the cold (clearly nothing will deter a lover of folk art) the barn was filled to the rafters with people enjoying work created by 35 artists from all over the Southeast. There was all manner of funny, colorful, thought-provoking and just all around amazing art to be experienced in the barn. Now it’s time to start planning for the 2014 show! Mark your calendars for next year's... Full Post >

The Lenten Roses

One of the most admired and remarked-upon features of the late winter gardens at Fearrington is the astounding collection of hellebores or Lenten roses (helleborus x hybridus) to be found in the dry rock garden near the sign to Fearrington House Restaurant. Starting from a collection of just 12 plants - vegetatively propagated from the famous strain grown by Ashwood Nurseries in England - our plants have multiplied over the past dozen years to become a veritable carpet of bloom. Usually... Full Post >

Hurry to the Granary for A Gregarious Beer

We are super excited to be offering the Stift Engelszell, Gregorius, Trappist Ale.  It is the 8th official Trappist Brewery in the world, becoming part of the organization last year.  It is the first Trappist Brewery in Austria and only the second outside of Belgium.  We only get one 20 L keg, they are the lowest of the eight breweries as far as production is concerned, with a total of 2,000 HL a year.  Hurry down to The Fearrington Granary and enjoy! - Maximilian Kast, Wine Director Full Post >

Sam the Dot Man returns to Fearrington

The Folk Art Show is only a two weeks away. As we eagerly (impatiently) await its arrival our minds turn to dots. Lots of them. Over the years, Sam the Dot Man has graced Fearrington with all manner of painted, dotted, art that welcomes visitors at the Belted Goat, at the Granary and for one weekend a year at the entrance to the Barn. Sam is a founding member of our show and I look forward to his return every winter. Rumor has it this might be his last show. I can’t imagine the show without... Full Post >

A Baby Beltie for Valentine’s Day

Even in the middle of winter, our Beltie cows have stories to tell and we are always happy to share those with you.  This little one was born at 10:43a.m. on February, 13th, 2013.  Cupid was tough enough to let us see his furry tail on this gloomy and rainy day.  If you find yourself wandering around Fearrington grounds make a quick stop to say hi.  Cheers Cupid!
